Shopping for a Girl like Her

The store was packed with smiling girls and a few puzzled boys and men. The wait for getting their doll’s hair done was 3 hours, and there were no empty seats in the bistro for humans or dolls.  Emma Kate found the doll “Just Like Her”, doll #39, with shoulder length brown hair and blue eyes.  She has almost decided on her name.  Name or not, we are set.  With fabric, yarn, sewing machines, knitting needles and endless ideas for projects, this doll will be stylish and well dressed and accessorized.


What an amazing story of the founder of American Girl, Pleasant Rowland. In the mid-80’s, she was simply shopping for dolls for her nieces, and the frustration of not finding a suitable doll, combined with her strong interest in history and writing, led to the creation of the American Girl enterprise.  Click here to read more
